Terrorism.

There are a number of things in this article which some people might find unpleasant, if not outright offensive, but taking the lumps for writing things as I see them, and know them, is why I get paid those big bucks as a blogger. To a large extent, I’ll only be telling you what’s already happening around you and what is going to happen, though none of your politicians will ever admit to it. You’ve had the health warning, you read on at your own peril.

Last week’s article was a guest piece by Graeme, a regular contributing writer to the blog. The title of the piece, which I’d come up with, was “we’ll always have Paris”. It commented in a humorous way on the upcoming Paris climate conference, but unfortunately about twelve hours after its publication, the tragedy of terrorists murdering Parisians occurred.

A friend asked me if I was thinking of pulling it and republishing at a later date. The thought never occurred to me because once people in a democracy start responding to terrorist attacks by changing their lives to accommodate terror, then a small gang of unelected murderers are effectively running the country.

That’s why you have to think very carefully before you negotiate with terrorists – you’re handing over control to them.

Terrorism is always driven by some sort of demand but it comes in two broad types, which I’ll call negotiable terrorism and unconditional terrorism.

With negotiable terrorism, the particular demand, because it is basically realistic, is capable of being met dependant on the political climate. It usually occurs in break away provinces or countries who are under the colonial rule of a foreign power. An example of the former would be Northern Ireland and the latter the Vietnamese war. Cede a measure of independence to them, or get the hell out, and the terrorism stops. The military option, even after dragging on for years, has never worked.

The terrorists or insurgents, pick the name you like, always enjoy the popular support of their people. They have to, because where they don’t, as in for instance the Malayan insurgency, they will be defeated. Essentially, that was a Chinese communist power grab by an unrepresentative minority of the population, which is why it failed.

Unconditional terrorism is driven by demands which simply cannot be satisfied. They’re too extreme to be met and the terrorists are totally inflexible anyway. Classic examples of this kind of terrorist were the Baader-Meinhof group in Germany, the Red Brigade in Italy and the Weathermen in America. Their demands were politically impossible, intricately bizarre and they enjoyed no popular support, which is why they all ended up dead or in prison.

The latest manifestation of unconditional terrorism is Islamic terrorism, and it has that same characteristic element of demanding the impossible to make it stop. There’s simply no way the western world is going to turn into a caliphate to oblige a handful of murderous loons. Since no accommodation can be made with Muslim terrorism, it ceases to be a political problem and becomes a military one.

The first duty of the leader of a country is to defend his people from attack. When push comes to shove, all else is secondary.

When dealing with unconditional terrorists, you’ll be faced with people unlawfully killing your citizens while at the same time taking ruthless advantage of that very same judicial framework to protect themselves from retribution. The only way out is to remove that protection in their case. Essentially, you’re taking away their legal rights. This will be met by howls of protest from grim-faced fellow travellers riding high on morally superior hobby horses.

Those protests can safely be ignored because of one thing – the vast majority of ordinary people couldn’t give a toss about the legal rights of terrorists who’re trying to kill them.

It’ll all be vaguely defined in some legal jargon, but in essence it means you can do anything you like. Stop and arrest with little or nothing in the way of probable cause, imprisonment without trial, internment, even torture and whatever else you need to do to contain the threat will be met with approval or at least indifference by the general populace, rather than any condemnation. France, by extending the current state of emergency to three months, is taking this step.

In parallel with the curtailing of their civil liberties, you have to get a lot more aggressive with the terrorists, even if that means employing methods that would be considered illegal in normal times. You get the message across to them that you are prepared to be even more ruthless than they are. There are no more hiding places, no rules and no mercy. Those days are gone, the gloves are off.

This approach works and I’ll give you a few examples of it.

In 1972, Israeli athletes competing at the Munich Olympics were taken hostage and murdered by Arab terrorists. In response, the Israeli government under the leadership of Golda Meir authorised an operation to assassinate anyone remotely connected with the terrorist attack. For literally years afterward, they ruthlessly hunted down and killed anyone who had in any way facilitated the atrocity. They took out a few foot soldiers but mainly hit the terrorist group’s top men. They decapitated it and only stopped when there was nobody significant left to kill.

In the years since, nobody has mounted an attack on an Israeli sports team.

At the height of the civil war in the Lebanon, four junior clerks from the Russian embassy in Beirut were kidnapped by Hezbollah. One of them was murdered to prove they meant business and the corpse left for the Russians to find. In response, the KGB kidnapped a nephew of one of the higher up leaders of Hezbollah.

They cut off his balls and had them delivered, together with an exhaustive list of all the names of the extended family members of the whole Hezbollah leadership. On a regular timeline, they cut off more pieces of him, and sent them back to other families as well. Within days, the three clerks were released unhurt and the KGB returned what was left of the body.

That happened in 1983. In the three decades since, no terrorist group has ever come anywhere near Russian embassy staff.

When Vladimir Putin, being an ex-KGB officer, said the people responsible for bringing down that Russian aircraft recently would be brought to justice, I’ve a fairly good idea of the style of justice that’s going to be dished out to the perpetrators and anyone around them. A point will have to be freshly made to a new generation of terrorists about what happens when you attack Russian civilians, and one sufficiently violent to last another three decades.

The reality is that we are at war.

In every war the first casualty, despite what you’ve been led to believe, is civil liberties, especially when you’re fighting a domestic enemy deeply embedded in your own country. War has a simplicity about it – you kill the enemy before they kill you. If you want to paralyse action by agonising over every kill, you’re going to lose that war. Mistakes will be made, it’s going to get messy at times, but the niceties of a liberal democracy have to get parked for the duration.

We in the west have a professional political class who think spin and media presentation will assuage people’s fears and somehow make it all go away, but it won’t. The longer they refuse to tackle it, the more it will escalate. They need to get their war faces on and get ahead of the game, because if they don’t and the body count continues to pile up, they’ll be replaced by populist leaders more in touch with the common person’s attitudes. If you can’t or don’t know how to defend us from our enemies, we’ll find people who can.

For better or for worse, all the well-groomed politicians doing nothing more than striking poses and ignoring what their electorates are thinking, will be replaced. Given a choice between Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump being prepared to do the hard things necessary to look after your country’s interests in wartime, who would you trust more?

We’re going to have to acknowledge and finally deal with the foreign enemies behind terrorism. At first glance, you might think that’s ISIS but I’m thinking more about those forty countries which by Russian intelligence estimates are funnelling funds to it from the Arab world. That’s that same world which wants nothing to do with their fellow Muslim arab “refugees” streaming into our countries from Syria, supposedly.

We were obliged to ignore their furtive and disingenuous support of anti-western forces in the past because of a dependence on their oil, but with the advent of fracking technology and the resultant plunge in the price of oil, the OPEC cartel is dead and by threatening their one revenue stream with embargo, they’d soon jump into line.

We can win this war, but we’ll not do it using hearts, flowers and candlelight vigils and somehow expecting these savages to be shamed into stopping. Put quite simply, we’ll win by killing them and keeping on killing them until there’s none of them left.

It’s very effective and it’s all they understand anyway.

That is exactly what the eco-freaks say has to happen to save the planet from climate change – unfortunately too many people who should know better believe them.

Excellent essay! I am really pissed off thinking that I could have been one of those poor sods murdered by these maniacs. The European governments have deprived us of our ability to protect ourselves effectively in these situations, but have shown that they are incapable of doing the job themselves. Something has to change!

Amen to all points! “We in the west have a professional political class who think spin and media presentation will assuage people’s fears and somehow make it all go away, but it won’t.”

Yet they, and all the warm and fuzzy members of the self-styled morally superior ‘bleeding hearts’ brigades of any Western country, never question nor criticise the actions of “those forty countries which by Russian estimates are funnelling funds to it from the Arab world. That’s that same world which wants nothing to do with “refugees” streaming into our countries from Syria.

Nor why the many Muslim ‘refugees’ allegedly fleeing Islamic terror they’ve allowed to dominate their own country, do not appear to have any desire to flood into those oil-rich Muslim countries to access the ‘benefits’ and Sharia Law enjoyed there by their Muslim ‘brothers’!

As I remember it, Arafat only agreed to negotiations after the Israelis had pretty much decapitated the PLO. Israel should have kept a target painted between his eyes and kept popping any terrorist who raised his head.

Granting any kind of legitimacy to a terrorist group is a losing game plan.

🎯🎯🎯 Such a clear and incisive analysis and exposition—you’ll never get anywhere in party politics Pointy😉😃‼️ Most of our legal systems used to have a simple provision to deal with such as militant Islam—caput gerat lupinum! Islam certainly considers we infidels in that light. Our Defence Forces will have to become peacemakers not peacekeepers and our Police will have to adopt a paramilitary modus operandi to counter the threat already within the walls. If our politicians don’t properly wield the disciplined apparatus of the state then the greater danger is that our own civil society breaks down as disillusioned hotheads take matters into their own hands.

I think that is what may happen in the USA (‘disillusioned hotheads take matters into their own hands’) and I also think the Federal government is hoping it will. After all it is ex-military, and retired Secret Service, FBI and CIA on the Department of Homeland Securities watch list not muslims. After 9-11 the USA DOUBLED the number of muslims granted immigration visa and that was under Bush as well as Obummer. Since 9-11 1.6 million additional muslims entered the country and half of those are from ‘hot spot’ countries.

In Europe the bulk of the ‘refugees’ are military aged man not women and children. Rah at Stevegoddard’s mentioned that Turkey is selling Syrian passports to all comers….

To bad the politicians refused to acknowledge this….

Or are they hoping to spark a really nasty backlashin the civilian population that will let them wipe the muslims off the map so the Middle East and North Africa can be colonized? After all if the Holocene is ending that is very valuable real estate once you add nuclear power and desalinization. Just as Israel.

The Potential Caliphate as reported in the MSM

The Holocene interglacial is now 11,717 years old. That’s two centuries or so beyond half the present precession cycle (or 23,000/2=11,500). So the little Ice Age was about the right time for glacial inception. However we had the Modern Grand Solar Minimum – A History of Solar Activity over Millennia

Only one interglacial , MIS-11, since the Mid-Pleistocene Transition has lasted longer than about half a precession cycle.

Any hope that the Holocene would go long was shot down by Lisiecki and Raymo in 2005 in their rebuttal of Loutre and Berger, 2003. No more recent papers has rebutted Lisiecki and Raymo in the decade since then. Not that the MSM would bother telling us that.

      ABSTRACT
We present a 5.3-Myr stack (the ‘‘LR04’’ stack) of benthic d18O records from 57 globally distributed sites aligned by an automated graphic correlation algorithm. This is the first benthic d18O stack composed of more than three records to extend beyond 850 ka,…

      RESULTS
Recent research has focused on MIS 11 as a possible analog for the present interglacial [e.g., Loutre and Berger, 2003; EPICA Community Members, 2004] because both occur during times of low eccentricity. The LR04 age model establishes that MIS 11 spans two precession cycles, with d18O values below 3.6% for 20 kyr, from 398 – 418 ka. In comparison, stages 9 and 5 remained below 3.6% for 13 and 12 kyr, respectively, and the Holocene interglacial has lasted 11 kyr so far. In the LR04 age model, the average LSR of 29 sites is the same from 398– 418 ka as from 250–650 ka; consequently, stage 11 is unlikely to be artificially stretched. However, the 21 June insolation minimum at 65°N during MIS 11 is only 489 W/m2, much less pronounced than the present minimum of 474 W/m2. In addition, current insolation values are not predicted to return to the high values of late MIS 11 for another 65 kyr. We propose that this effectively precludes a ‘‘double precession cycle’’ interglacial [e.g., Raymo, 1997] in the Holocene without human influence.

I would agree except that a choice between Clinton and Trump would be the worst possible one. Fortunately it looks as if the appeal of both is fading. (Did you see the amounts of Arab cash going into the Clinton fund?).

And if we are going to think the unthinkable, why not emulate the Russians. These people think they are going to heaven so why not cut off their “incentives”? Feed them to pigs – after disinfecting to protect the pigs – and dispose of the body in a non koranic approved manner. A few examples would deflate enthusiasm amongst targeted recruits.

If you want to look at the Republicans the three issues are:
      #1. CAGW,
      #2. Immigration/close the borders,
#3 the the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) That treaty gives the paris-ite Circus the Teeth to enforce what ever is agreed a upon.
(Anti-abortion and Anti-gay rights will lose the election)

See my comment at Tallblokes about why TPP is so important.

Those three issues take out just about all the viable candidates except Rick Santorum who polls near the bottom and Trump who is a wild card.

Cruz, Carson, Rand Paul & Rubio support TPP. Carly Fiorina supports CAGW. Christy and Bush are Democrats in Republican clothing. Scott Walker ended his 2016 run. Carson is pro Gun Control too. Mike Huckabee , Bobby Jindal and Rick Santorum all publicly opposed TPA

Mike Huckabee is wishy-washy on Immigration and doesn’t have a clue about CAGW. “” Not to diminish anything about the climate at all, but Mr. President, I believe that most of us would think that a beheading is a far greater threat to an American than a sunburn.” He opposed TPP

Kasich is wishy-washy on Immigration and CAGW. “doesn’t “want to overreact” to global warming”

Lindsey Graham supports green energy, and wants to increase legal immigration.

BusinessWeek named Pataki one of the top 20 “individuals who stand out for their efforts to cut gases that cause global warming” in the world.

Rick Santorum, hard-line stance to limit legal immigration, “There’s hundreds of reasons the climate’s changed.” opposed TPP Unfortunately he get 1% of the polling votes on a consistent basis.

Everyone else has less than 1% of the poll votes.
      ***********************

      Trump said:
“Man, we could use a big fat dose of global warming!”
      “Obama’s Trans-Pacific Partnership Deal Is ‘Insanity’ ”
“When politicians talk about “immigration reform” they mean: amnesty, cheap labor and open borders….We are the only country in the world whose immigration system puts the needs of other nations ahead of our own. That must change.”

At least Trump is entertaining and drags the real issues out front and center. Best of all the man gives the MSM conniption fits! Unfortunately he is still a Wild Card.

The trouble is that the stupid walk among us and are blind to common sense or are just too keen to be seen to be politically correct.

Our CEO commented on his microblog, extending his condolences to the victim’s and their families. The sixth comment from the rank and file was this gob-smacking outburst:
“That the world is showing a unequivocal support to the nation of France with regards to the terror attacks in Paris while at the same time ignoring the suffering of the Lebanese people whose suffered 4 suicide attacks in Beirut only one day before is fine. Ignoring the suffering of the Syrian people after 5 years of war and counting is also fine…Ignoring the destruction of what is believed to be a world heritage like the Sumerian museum in Irak or the city of Palmyra in Syria is against everything I believe in as a human being but still fine. What is overwhelming is that the CEO of the company I work for chose the same path as the rest of the world. May God, Allah or the flying Spaghetti Monster have mercy on us.”

What was really amazing was that pile of drivel got 17 likes in an afternoon from an assortment of ‘enlightened’ colleagues.

    Ultimately my response went unsent (after an hour drafting and editing it and trying to make it acceptable for posting), because you clearly can’t make this level of stupid see sense and in today’s PC society, it would be me getting disciplined for racial hatred, not Kahm Al Shaggeh (not his real name), but after much editing, what was in the comment window waiting for the ‘send’ command was;
“Do you really need it spelled out to you retard?
The reason we’re grieving for the people in Paris, but no one cries and wails too much about the daily events in Lebanon, Syria or Iraq is because the victims in Paris were going about their day in a decent, civilised society and got ruthlessly fucked over for no reason other than their country is trying to do the right thing by waging war on the worthless animals in ISIS.
The sad, pointless shit going on daily in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq is all becoming ‘another day in paradise’ which we’ve all gotten too used to hearing about every day in the news and have unfortunately become desensitized to by now. Furthermore, it’s happening to people living in recognized warzones and you never hear a lot of outpouring of grief for non-combatants who unfortunately become ‘collateral damage’ because although it’s sad, it’s inevitable in warzones.
All the more so because in this case they’re not ‘our’ warzones (let’s face it, how many people in Syria cried for the poor bastards massacred by the Indonesian militias in East Timor or the Tutsis who were ‘ethnically cleansed’ by the Hutu in Rwanda?).
Moreover, the civil wars in Syria, Libya and Lebanon were started by those people all on their own and are being perpetuated in Iraq and Libya because it would appear that the locals don’t understand how to tolerate people (each other) with different opinions or different flavours of outmoded ideas (like medieval style organised religion) and they demonstrably aren’t evolved enough to deal with disagreement in a civilised manner; which is apparently why they’re so busy blowing each other up every day.
You could, in fairness, say almost the same about the belligerents in almost any ‘civil’ war anywhere in the world.
The difference in Paris is that the heroic martyrs of the manky caliphate are losing now they’re facing actual opposition instead of unarmed NGO hostages, farmers and piss weak amateurs, and uniquely feel justified in taking out their frustrations on innocent people on another continent who have got fuck all to do with the shit going on in Syria, or Lebanon, or Iraq.
I don’t recall the combatants of any previous civil war coming to bomb or shoot-up cities in countries with nothing to do with their tribal affairs once one side or other started losing. Except maybe when the goat herders in the Taliban took out their frustrations on innocent Spanish commuters, but let’s face it, the Taliban are just a different flavour of the same type of cavemen as ISIS.
If intolerant, backward societies are serving up their own appalling ‘medicine’ to one another, then it’s not nice and we certainly aren’t celebrating (indeed we do what we can to intervene and get our noses bloodied for it), but it’s their way of life, their medieval ‘code’, they’re welcome to keep it to themselves and what business of ours is it to solve stupid anyway? (we all might as well bang our head against a wall every night before bed for all the good it will do)
But when stone age vultures start serving it up to innocent civilised people with nothing at all to do with poxy tribal disputes in far-away countries (countries that, if it weren’t for oil, we really wouldn’t give a scuttering fuck about in the first place), then it becomes a shocking outrage and of course we will ‘follow the rest of the world’ in expressing our sadness and sympathy.
…And by the way, if it’s so ‘overwhelming’ that the CEO says exactly what he should at a time like this, well, you’re living in a free society where you can exercise your freedom of individual thought and expression without risk of being blown up and are therefore very welcome to fuck right off and spare the rest of us your poxy, self-indulgent outrage.
May God, Allah or the Flying Spaghetti Monster help you figure it out you stupid twat”

Today I see in the news that the brother of the would be terrorist who was shot by the French fuzz when they raided his flat at 4a.m. and prevented his cell launching their own attack, is being photographed lighting candles in memory of his poor misunderstood brother and that’s published in the BBC without a hint of ‘WTF?’.
It seems we’ve been snug in our warm beds so long since 1945 that we’ve really gone soft in the head? My grandfathers would roll in their graves if they knew how we’d pissed the inheritance they earned for us up against a wall.

    Pointman,

Great to see an assessment that pulls few punches and does away with the sugar-coating. You’re right – we are at war, and the sooner people understand that, the quicker we’ll win it.

It’s always prudent to heed the advice of a man of experience and on that basis, the Chinese general Sun Tzu’s best advice was “Know your enemy”.

With that in mind, I realised I knew absolutely nothing about Muslims or their history or their motivation for the wars they wage. Who the hell are they? What is the point they are trying to make, and to what end?

An Australian by the name of Harry Richardson has done all the hard work of research for us and published his work online ……

    http://thestoryofmohammed.blogspot.com.au/

Until we take the time to read every word of Harry’s work we’ll remain ignorant, and vulnerable to the spin and outright lies of the Islamists and their sycophantic apologists of the Western political elite and their captive Media dolts.

    For example, part of the enlightening Glossary of terms used by the “religion of peace”;

    Islam: to submit.
    Muslim: one who has submitted.
Dhimmis: Non-Muslims who submit to Islam and agree to be ruled by Sharia Law.
Jizya: Tax levied upon Dhimmis who have submitted to Islam.
Taquiya: Also referred to as “sacred deceit”. Essentially it means deceiving people to advance Islam.
Ummah: Muslims consider themselves to belong to a nation they refer to as “The Ummah”.

Long story short – When Muslims invade the lands of the Dhimmis they consider the welfare and housing benefits they soak up to be nothing more than Jizya, their divine right and theirs to demand – a tax on our weakness and stupidity. When you hear Muslim clerics on your nightly news bulletins telling you they are a “religion of peace” and mean no harm to anyone they are faithfully practising Taquiya, an obligation to tell their foe what they want to hear; saying anything necessary to advance the cause of the Caliphate. They recognise no national borders or tribe or race because Muslims of all persuasions belong to their own nation of The Ummah.

When the economic country-shoppers use false ID and lie to Western authorities about their country of origin, they are simply using Taquiya to extract Jizya from the Dhimmis in order to expand the Ummah; a complete invasion with nary a shot fired against them. At first it was all men but they realised that big hairy men spooked civilians so they began including a few women and children to advance their acceptance by the bleeding-heart Dhimmis.

It’s a whole new language and a whole new mindset to us in the West, but until we get inside their heads to “To know our Enemy” we’ll continue to expect them to have the same sensibilities and heart and conscience that we do.

For them, they consider Mohhamed to have lived a perfect life and is to be emulated in every way.

To us of a Judeo-Christian ethos of forgiveness and empathy, their Prophet was nothing more than a murderous little bandit – a thief, a liar, a rapist and a paedophile. And this is the perfect man who cannot be mocked on pain of death?

We are at war. Where do I sign up?

HR has managed to distill the essential facts and history of Islam into around 100 very readable pages. Not exactly a Ph D thesis but a more than passable outline for one or an executive summary if you will.

If any Western political or religious reader who has read it and properly checked its veracity doesn’t then reject Islam in its entirety is a rogue or a fool or mostly likely both. Countries like Australia should only accept as refugees non–Muslims or demonstrably apostate Muslims who of course won’t be needing huge Mosque complexes and Islamic Community Centres. No need to make them citizens of course as they will be returned to their own lands and culture just as soon as the pest controllers have fumigated their homelands.

Harry Richardson has distilled a complex situation into Everyman’s language that is unambiguous and he passes no opinions of his own; he respects his readership enough to allow them to digest the information and draw their own conclusions.

Harry sent copies of his book to EVERY Australian Federal policitican and had few acknowledgements or responses – they generally ignored him.

Unless ALL of us make it our business to ‘know our enemy’ and understand that simply by accepting them into our country at all, they consider us to have ‘submitted’ to the will of Allah which automatically makes us Dhimmis in their eyes; whether we know it or not is irrelevant to them.

You’re right O/R – Temporary Protection Visas are the only way to go and Merkel has announced she’ll be doing just that; no more automatic right to residency or family reunion or citizenship.

The invaders have threatened to take her to the European Courts to have their “human rights” restored, courtesy of the EU taxpayers.

a group of Muslim apostates, who have left Islam out of our own conviction when we discovered that Islam is not a religion at all. Most of us took a prolonged period of time to study, evaluate and contemplate on Islam, the religion of our birth. Having meticulously scrutinized Islam, we concluded that it is not a religion of peace at all, as touted by smooth-talking, self-serving Muslims and their apologists from non-Muslim backgrounds. The core of Islam—that is, the Qur’an, Hadis and Sharia—is filled with unbounded hatred of the unbelievers, is unbelievably intolerant toward them, and is extremely cruel and merciless to Muslims who dare to deviate from its doctrine….

    Good piece, Pointman

There is no negotiation with a group that values your death over their life and – incredibly – even the lives of their own children.

Their motto is”You love death and we love life“.

There is only one answer to that, give them exactly what they love, as soon as possible and as many as possible.

It’s a funny thing, but if a decade ago someone had suggested that one day, I would regard Russia as a far better bet as the saviour of Western civilisation than the USA and the UK, I would have laughed them to scorn.

    But not any more, unfortunately.

Incidentally, I note that some ill-informed cretin has mentioned the plight of the Lebanon. Before the pig Arafat and his Fakestinian vermin fled there after their exceptionally ill-judged attempt to seize power in Jordan and attacked the predominantly Christian Lebanese, the Lebanon was akin to the Riveria of the Eastern Mediterranean. But not any more.

It looks as though I may have upset some of my friends in parts of Australia. All I did was to suggest that I liked the headline in one of the Paris papers (Cette fois c’est la guerre); and to suggest that Raqqah would look good as a great smoking hole in the ground.

Bomb them forward into the stone age.

      John,

“This time, it’s war” was Le Parisien’s headline which was quoting Francois Hollande at a press conference. What a tragedy it is that the terrorists got two bites at Paris and 500 plus more casualties in one year, before the penny dropped – it is actually a war.

All across Europe, if you listen carefully, pennies are dropping.

What Parisien didn’t go on to quote was what else he said – “We are going to lead a war which will be pitiless”.

That’s the gloves coming off, the brass knuckles being put on and to hell with any rules.

        Pointman,
It is just possible that I have some knowledge of the problem. For three years I worked on a fly in/fly out basis (three times a year; back to Oz) in Jeddah. When I went there I was 62-63 and spent 40 odd years in a very straight forward industry. I learned to like and admire some of the Arab engineers/geologists/technicians I worked with; but they were a minority. The average denizen of the average slum was little advanced from the 7th century. This lead me to read the holy books and I discovered that everything that is stated in the “on-line” world is quite true. That is when I could stay awake. The supposedly perfect book/s is/are terminally boring.
Once a year, during Ramadan, I just had to get out. Luckily I had a son working in the oil industry and based out of London and Reading. During 3 weeks of the back half of Ramadan and the Eid al Fitr, I was in a civilised place, in London. And we always caught the Eurostar for a long week-end in Paris. A place I like a lot. Luckily I had worked (30 years before) “en quebec” so I had some (not much) facility in French.
So I am doubly pissed-off with all of this.

An excellent article, Pointman. I would only add that unfortunately there is a great deal of support for the Islamist Terrorists as about 27% of the one billion Muslims thoroughly approve of what the Radicals are doing. However a bit of firm action could see this number rapidly melt away. Firm action will not be coming from Obama, Cameron or Merkel however.

The trouble with Islam is that the Koran is really a political manifesto written over many episodes, so can be contradictory, but is considered sacred and anyone who interprets it in a new way is promptly attacked by those considering themselves “holier than thou”.
The salafist types, not all of whom are murderous, want to go back to the original days which they believe were days of purity. Then there are the Wahabis who are in charge in Saudi Arabia, who might be considered equivalent to the dour, unrelenting Scottish Presbyterians (or 300 years ago). Somehow they all manage to see no contradictions, no reason for new appraisal etc. And they all believe that the Apocalypse is fast approaching when, after a great battle in which most moslems are killed (going to Paradise), Islam will ultimately triumph and rule the world.

Think about the Christian side. in 1666, Patriarch Nikon decided to bring the Russian Church in line with Greek Orthodoxy. his assertion that Orthodox believers should use three fingers instead of two to cross themselves led to him being labeled the Antichrist by opponents of his changes. Nikon’s actions seemed to them to be a sign that the Apocalypse was fast approaching. The Old Believers fled to remote areas and split into many sects. The most notorious were the Skoptsy who believed that reproduction organs only appeared after humanity had been tempted by Satan. Accordingly, in order “to avoid sexual temptation and sin” the group’s men castrated themselves. Just to be on the safe side, they also cut off women’s breasts. Weird? By 1863 official state statistics showed that the group was some 110,000-strong, presumably not reflecting their birth rate.
Even outside Russia various sects clung to “the old ways” e.g. the Amish for one. Various groups of Primitive Brethren, all of whom seem to abhor the others even more than they do the general population.

So religious fervour can strike many, along with contempt for those outside the sect. The problem for Islam is that anybody can set himself up as “the pure one” and then decide to kill his neighbours, and anybody else in his power. There is no central authority as there used to be in Christianity which would declare the sect heretical and crusade against it. Rather the group grows as it seems to be a success and thus the answer to many moslems. When it fails, it does so rapidly (and the next sect starts attracting members).

“THE Australian Army is removing the motto “In this sign conquer” from the 102-year-old hat badges of army chaplains because it is offensive to Muslims.

The move comes after an imam approved by the Grand Mufti was appointed to join the Religious Advisory Committee to the Services in June.

Australian Army chaplains have had the motto on their hat badges since 1913.

A Defence spokeswoman last night denied the motto was being changed because it was associated with the Crusades, when Christian armies fought Muslims in the Holy Land during the Middle Ages.”

Sometimes, just sometimes, mind you – this Swan is left (almost) speechless with rage.

This nation has been left to us in trust, to serve and to protect for future generations.

      D. Extremist Ideologies
      1. Introduction
      • As noted, an ideology is a set of political beliefs about the nature of people and society. People who are committed to an ideology seek not only to persuade but to recruit others to their belief. In U.S. history, there are many examples of extremist ideologies and movements. The colonists who sought to free themselves from British rule and the Confederate states who sought to secede from the Northern states are just two examples.

      WTF!

      And the passage goes on

      • While not all ideologists are violent in nature, it is characteristic of ideology to be action-oriented and to regard action in terms of a military analogy. How often have you heard words such as struggle, resist, march, victory, and overcome when reading about or talking to ideologists about their beliefs?

      2. Ideologies
      a. Nationalism – The policy of asserting that the interests of one’s own nation are separate from the interests of other nations or the common interest of all nations. Many nationalist groups take it a step further and believe that their national culture and interests are superior to any other national group.

      b. Supremacy – The belief that one’s race or ethnicity is superior to all others and should dominate society. Supremacy, as with racial supremacies in general, has frequently resulted in anti-Black and anti-Semitic violence.

      c. Separatism – Setting oneself or others apart based on culture, ethnicity, race, or religion.

      d. Anarchism – A political ideology that considers the state to be unnecessary, harmful, or undesirable.….

      e. Religion – Extremist ideology based on intolerance toward other religions….

Gee, I guess that I, as a typical patriotic American, who thinks our leaders should protect OUR nation, culture and society; one who thinks the country was organized purposefully with a weak federal government and strong state government, is now considered by the Department of Defense as an ‘extremist.’ So I now I must consider the federal government to be harmful too.

      Unf…king-believable!

The problem with the show-no-mercy strategy, which I generally agree with, is that in this case we have a leader who is so disconnected from the realities of his job he sees his fellow Americans as most of the problem, and his political opponents as his real enemy. Combine this with a world view that is obsessed with “climate” as the single most important thing facing the Earth and the result is a uniquely unstable situation.
And this leader is demonstrating more and more that he is willing to apply very harsh tactics against his perceived enemies.
