Used intelligently, they’re our bitches now.

Within any community of people, there’s always a natural diversity of personality. Usually that diversity is an asset to be tapped into and utilised, sometimes it’s a liability and people learn to cope with the variations. On average, some people are good in certain situations and bad in others, and again, the people around them gradually learn which ones to involve them in and which ones to keep them well out of.

However, there are strong-willed individuals whose judgement is average in normal situations but very bad in certain other areas. As a result, their input into important decisions in those areas tends to be gradually ignored by the group. When that person subconsciously realises that, it can become a deteriorating situation. Both their natural need for recognition and mounting hysteria at being ignored, compel them to push ever more extreme suggestions into an area that already nobody trusts their opinion in.

The harder they try, the more extreme the suggestions become, the more the rest of the community ignore them, because their increasingly excessive suggestions only serve to confirm the common perception of them as being slightly deluded or in other words, when it comes to that topic, not all their li’l doggies are on a leash. Their mounting frustration can lead to aggressive behaviour and occasionally spills over into outright violence.

That is the situation we’ve now arrived at in dealing with activist climate alarmists.

The general public is no longer bothered about global warming and indeed sees it as irrelevant and as yesterday’s fad. They’re really not interested and in a simplistic effort to regain their attention, the alarmist movement just keeps jacking up the magnitude and immediacy of the threat, to the point where the propaganda machine has now become wholly disconnected from any fig leaf of scientific justification, even by their own compromised and supposedly scientific organisations. Every extreme weather event will automatically be blamed on global warming, even though the latest IPCC report says explicitly that no evidence for any such causality has been established. Of course, the IPCC itself is carefully edging backwards into survival mode …

Anything will do. You name it, it’ll be blamed on global warming and with absolutely not a shred of evidence. The Arab spring, no more Christmas trees, Snailbat extinction, Islamic terrorism, women going on the game, a spike in demand for proctologists and pretty much anything else you can think of. All those things are supposedly the fault of global warming.

The only thing keeping climate alarmism afloat at this stage is not the fanatic alarmists but the establishment pigs in clover who’re comfortably earning big time money, cynically riding high in the Pullman wagon of that delicious climate gravy train. They’re all that’s left and I rather think a combination of cutbacks on subsidies and perhaps a few good exposés on how corrupt they actually are will finish them off in the end. Those are the people we really have to turn our firepower on, not the activists, who’re a spent force.

It’s all about greed now, nothing more and especially not about ideology.

I think there is a subconscious assumption amongst many climate realists that the most outrageous alarmists are somehow the real opposition remaining but that’s a false perception. Yes, they’re highly visible in the media but nowadays when they’re not being ignored, it’s because they’re being laughed at. They’re yesterday’s men because they have a shrinking influence on today’s people and the idea that because of our activities they will finally give up as they’ll get tired of being derided or will somehow come to realise that they were wrong is an illusory chimera.

That is an entirely unrealistic expectation and it would have little effect anyway because they’re by now irrelevant.

They will never give up and will remain climate alarmists to their dying day. It simply doesn’t matter that none of their predictions have come true. No increase in global temperatures in nearly two decades? Well, some year it’ll go up. No snow after 2007? No matter, one year, some year, there’ll be no more snow. North Pole melt by 2013? Well, one year, some year, it’ll melt completely.

Like all doomsday cults who go through their predicted end of the world deadline, they’ll simply reset the Armageddon clock forward a few years, redouble their efforts, pray harder to their prophet and recruit or convert more people into the cult.

The point is that trying to persuade fanatics to our viewpoint is a complete waste of time, since it can’t be done. However, we should not finish them off just yet. Yes, goad them, encourage them, tease them, challenge them to bring it on, deride them, make them figures of fun, prod them, push them, yank them around, make them lose their rag but it’d be a silly mistake to crush them utterly.

The only remaining utility the fanatics of climate alarmism have is for our ends. Their job is to become ever more strident, more extreme, to become angrier and more marginal, to further discredit the cause and alienate ordinary people. Our job is to encourage them do that.

Used intelligently, they’re our bitches now.

    Pointman,

A really brilliant twist on how to deal with the fanatics. Just goes to prove that all we can really control is how we react to people and circumstances, so a little lateral thinking and an ‘attitude adjustment’ is all we needed.

Now the “establishment pigs in clover” need to have their snouts levered out of the trough. Maybe getting rid of our carbon dioxide tax will be a step in the right direction.

Looking forward to some fun dealing with “our bitches” as they try to block our new government’s legislation in the Senate. A double dissolution and a fresh election should put an end to them once and for all.

The best way to goad these people is through ridicule. Forget the ‘pause’, mention Bob Geldof instead, or the climate expertise of George Clooney, or the remedy proposed by Professor Richard Parncutt.

Alarmists never fail to rise to these baits………

Exactly. That’s why I think the climate alarmists are actually projecting when they label skeptics as flat-Earthers.

Consider flat-Earth beliefs many centuries ago. Beyond the observational horizon, great minds conceived of peril and disaster, an edge or cliff or tipping point that would lead to certain destruction. This was based partly on acknowledging the common-sense flatness of the observed world, and that this flatness could not extend without limits.

Now think about the apocalyptic predictions portended by the great minds of the environmental movement. Although things may appear ok now, this cannot continue without limits. There must be a tipping point or edge or cliff just a little into the future, a horizon that cannot be observed. The tipping point leads to the dead-certain destruction of all life on Earth.

As time marches on, the edges of the map catch up with the predicted cliffs. The old predictions of the ends-of-the-Earth are revealed as ignorant bafflegab. Unlike the flat-Earthers of the past, however, the current crop of eco-doomsters simply moves the cliffs and edges out past the horizon, once again proclaiming equally dire apocalypse just over the horizon.

The decayed husks of failed end-of-the-world predictions litter human history, and are as common today as they were during the middle ages.

The flat-Earth idea is actually quite a recent idea; while not too sure when it developed, I suspect it was mooted in an attempt by the “scientists” of the day to look superior to their predecessors (it also goes to show that we have changed so little). Columbus knew the Earth was round; he just didn’t realise it was quite as big as it is. He set off westwards searching for a short-cut to India – which is why the natives of the Americas were referred to as Indians right from the start. All this demonstrates that even the belief in flat-Earth believers is a scam! (Should we be surprised?)

As for “prophets of the apocalypse”™ forever shifting our eco-doom to a bit further into the future (but not too far as to be not alarming) – that is an excellent parallel!

If you read history, you may come to the conclusion that there are no longer to be found men and women of vision and forward thinkers. Today, we only have the ordinary person (who cannot think for themselves) who would like to make a name for themselves (global warming so called scientists) but alas, once they are gone no one will even remember them. In my humble opinion, World War I killed off the cream of the human crop. The direction of the world was forever changed by the killing fields. The great men (and women) that we could have had leading us into the 21st century died in this war. After this war we had men like Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, etcetera who, rather that be visionaries and direct humankind forward to a sane and progressive world, further aided the elimination and the debasing of humanity. I often wonder, had World War I not happened, what would our world be like today?

An astute observation. Have often wondered the what ifs of the loss of such much talent that the European Civilisations of the world suffered at that time. For Australia that loss was proportionately very heavy and at an important time in our development as a country. I recall Alanbrooke in his diaries lamenting the impact of the WWI losses on the leadership material available to the Allies during WWII. No doubt the Germans suffered similarly, certainly the Weimar Republic was ill served by the too bitter and resentful generations of the too old and too young that filled the vacuum. Might both Communism and Fascism been still born and a more principled and benign Capitalism emerged? So many imponderables!

And so they should be. Their withdrawal throes are imminent. This spectacle will make a superb dessert for the rest of us, served cold of course.
